10分で行ける隣りあう離島なのに例えるならまるで別人。瀬戸内海・弓削島と佐島に感じた個性の違いとは？
唐突だけど、この写真に島はいくつあるでしょう？
(ヒント：瀬戸内海の弓削島にある久司山の展望台から西北西を撮影)
瀬戸内海の離島の数は大小あわせて約700。紙をしいたようなおだやかな海に、まんじゅうのような島がぽこぽこ海から顔を出している風景は、まさに多島美。
こんなに近くに島々が並んでいるので以外に思うかもしれないけれど、島に訪れたとき島ごとに異なる個性のようなものを感じます。
弓削島のすぐ隣りにあるのは佐島。佐島と弓削島は、橋でつながっています。佐島の集落から弓削島の下弓削集落まで自転車で約10分。こんなに近いのに、あれっなんか違うな、と感じるのです。

佐島の人口は弓削島に比べてぐっと少なく、集落は瀬戸内海の海のようにおだやか。弓削島は都会。コンビニなんていうのもあります。といっても、弓削島の人口は約3千人なのだけど。
弓削島を歩いていると、すれ違いざまに若者があいさつしてくれました。島にある商船高等専門学校の学生さんかもしれません。
立ち寄った商店のおばちゃんの「どこから来たの？」からはじまったおしゃべりはなかなかつきません。
お好み焼き屋に入ったら常連らしき方々がおしゃべりで盛り上がっています。しばらくしたら、おしゃべりの輪に入れてくれました。
そんな佐島の印象は、小学校2年のとき、となりの席だったおとなしいあの子。そして、弓削島の印象は、中学2、3年のとき同じクラスのおしゃべりが楽しくて、元気なあの子。
いまはどんな風になってるのかな。

Do you think there are how many islands in this picture?
(Hint: I took the picture at Mt. Kushi's observatory in Yugeshima in Setonaikai.)
The number of islands (including big and small) in Setonaikai is about 700. It's said that the landscape is 'Tatobi' from japanese. The meaning of Tatoubi is beauty which consists of a lot of islands and calm sea.
Islands are in line around here so much, so you may think in outside, but when visiting in an island, you might feel the different individuality every island.
The one which is immediately next to Yugeshima is Sashima. Sashima and Yugeshima are connected at a bridge. It's about 10 minutes by bicycle from Sashima to the Yugeshima.
but, I felt that something is different.
The population of Sashima is much few compared with Yugeshima, and the Sasima's village is very quiet. Yugeshima is a city. Even if I say so, the population of Yugeshima is about 3000.
